Overview

Power Surfacing for SOLIDWORKS is a revolutionary SolidWorks industrial design plugin product that will fundamentally change the way that engineers and designers design parts in SolidWorks.

Power Surfacing for SOLIDWORKS makes it easy and fun to design complex free form, aesthetically pleasing “Class A” surfaces in SolidWorks. No longer will you have to fight with patching a set of trimmed surfaces together to form complex curved shapes; manipulating Power Surfacing parts is as simple as modeling with clay. With the release of Version 4.1, Power Surfacing has turned its Power Body objects into macro features so that they behave more like typical SolidWorks features, and they can be created and edited directly from SolidWorks assemblies. And you can now easily use Power Surfacing bodies as instances or references.

What’s New

The latest release is a major upgrade for Power Surfacing. It includes some new features requested by customers, and it greatly improves productivity and usability. Power Surfacing makes designing complex shapes easier and faster so that they can be manufactured precisely. Here are some of the new features:

New Power Shell and Power Thicken tools
Precise conversion: faster, lighter-weight, precisely accurate geometry.
Measurement and accurate dimensioning: measure to Power Surfacing features / bodies and get accurate values.
Phong shading: for high quality imaging – great for showing surface quality.
HDRI based lighting : use various images for light reflection and high quality imaging – great for viewing surface quality.
Enhanced Quad Fill: this powerful tool will now fill even some large, complex holes.
Lighter weight models: The new converted models contain lighter weight surfaces, which will speed up your overall workflow.
Faster conversion: conversion of the Power Surfacing SubD geometry into SolidWorks surfaces and solids is much faster.

Neither Sub-D (Subdivision Surface) modeling nor NURBS modeling can effectively solve all 3-D design problems. Each has strengths and weaknesses. Sub-D modeling is great at producing and modifying complex freeform / organic shapes with smooth surfaces. NURBS modeling is good at combining shapes via. Boolean and Feature operations as well as refining shapes with operations like filleting, blending and face editing. We really see Power Surfacing as a novel and powerful unification piece between these two technologies. Students

If you are a student with an acceptable form of academic ID at a primary school, secondary school, college, university, or career state-accredited school, you qualify to order a single-user educational license.

Provide your academic ID AND one of the following with your order:

Your current class schedule DATED for the current school term
Your transcript DATED for the current school term
Your tuition bill DATED for the current school term

There is a limit of one license per product, per individual at the Educational price.

The Educational license is for that individual’s own use -not to be shared with others, or installed throughout their company.

Faculty/Staff

If you are a member of the faculty or staff with an acceptable form of academic ID at a primary school, secondary school, college, university, or career state-accredited school, you qualify to order a single-user educational license.

Provide one of the following with your order:

Your current course schedule DATED for the current school term
Faculty/staff pay stub from the current school term

Schools

Any government accredited school can order single-user educational licenses or lab licenses on a school purchase order or procurement card.

These licenses can only be run on computers owned by the school.
